House approves bill to change primary date when it falls after Labor Day

Shandling moved an amendment (LC003210/2) to correct a typographical error in a statutory reference by deleting language cited as "17 9 7" and inserting "17 19 7." The House adopted the amendment (announced 65–0) and then took the amended bill back up and approved it on the floor (clerk announced the affirmative and negative tallies). The transcript records that the act "prevails." The change affects scheduling of primary elections when the original date conflicts with the Labor Day holiday; proponents framed the bill as routine election scheduling housekeeping.
