Students present broadcasting club and student feedback; board hears safety, facilities and academic priorities

High-school students showcased a new broadcasting club and student leaders delivered a student-voice summary to the Crook County SD board, asking for modest resources and more involvement in planning. The presentation highlighted student interest in athletics coverage and a desire for more student-driven journalism.
"Broadcasting is a really cool way to get kids involved," said Jay Gorridge, the student who described forming the club and recruiting a small crew. Students described roles (camera, commentary, control) and credited staff member Jake Ulrich for helping launch the program.
Student representative Sophie Fisher summarized feedback gathered from leadership students and described top student concerns: parking-lot safety at the high school, dissatisfaction with some high-school bathrooms, interest in expanded academic recognitions beyond athletics, requests for better support for online courses (including time-zone and instructor-support problems), and curiosity about participating in a potential school bond.
"We haven't talked a ton about [the bond], but I think just, like, hoping to get more support for the middle school and just, like, learning more about it," Sophie Fisher said, offering students' willingness to engage in outreach.
Board members praised the student work and encouraged them to meet with staff to identify specific resource gaps for outdoor coverage and post-game interviews. The board suggested a follow-up meeting before budget priority-setting in January so students' priorities can be considered in next year's planning.
The student presentations took place during the recognitions and student-feedback portion of the meeting and the board emphasized hands-on support rather than immediate new spending.
