Middlesex Community College president outlines fall updates, $15,000 gift and plans for accreditation and events

Johnson announced a $15,000 gift to the college's honors program from former Middlesex president Dr. Anna Wasesha. "We received a $15,000 donation to support the Middlesex honors program," Johnson said, thanking Wasesha for the "gracious and generous" contribution.
The president described ongoing accreditation work at both the institutional and programmatic levels. He said the college is preparing for a comprehensive accreditation review with a regional accreditor (referred to in the transcript as "Nechi") and cited program-level activity led by Dr. Jamis Albert in the veterinary-technology program and an "ODD program" filing its annual report.
Johnson also reviewed recent campus engagement: the library's "community cider" event on October 15 and the college's Day of Service on October 17 organized by the civic engagement coordinator. He described an all-day equity and social justice workshop held October 24 in partnership with the city of Middletown as a step toward stronger campus-city collaboration on addressing inequities.
On upcoming events, Johnson asked the community to "mark your calendars" for a Diwali festival of lights on November 7 co-hosted with a neighboring Hindu temple, and he announced a Handshake workshop for students and employers on November 5 to support job and internship searches.
Looking ahead to institutional planning, Johnson said the college held an all-campus meeting to set priorities for January 2026 through summer 2027. He said a follow-up survey and emails have been sent, draft priorities will be discussed with the president's advisory council, and final guidance will be shared at the January convocation.
Johnson closed with personnel acknowledgments and operational reminders, thanking staff member Wanna Preston for building partnerships that support students and urging the community to watch email notices for holiday and winter-break schedules; he warned that some services may be closed while others remain open.
