“Today we bring to you some excitement for the youth in our community,” said Courtney Penny, deputy director of the Department of Airports, introducing the contest and calendar. Annie Seacrest, the department’s sustainability manager, described each monthly winner and thanked students and families for participating.
Why it matters: The contest was framed as civic outreach that connects students to local aviation infrastructure, highlights the Central Coast’s landmarks and promotes interest in STEM and aviation careers. The calendar will be distributed at the airports and county facilities; Penny told the board that printed copies are available in the foyer.
Board reaction: Supervisors praised the creativity and community partnership, noted the calendar’s value for outreach, and invited the artists to take a photo with the board. The board did not take a separate vote on the calendar beyond accepting the presentation.
What’s next: The Department of Airports plans to host the contest annually and continue promoting youth engagement in aviation and arts.
