Wilson County commissioners approve surplus sheriff vehicles, adopt budget calendar and confirm board appointment

At its Jan. 12 meeting the Wilson County Board of Commissioners approved several administrative items: a list of 12 surplus sheriffs vehicles, a proposed budget calendar for fiscal year 2026-27, and one appointment to the Board of Health.
County staff summarized the surplus list, which included multiple model-year Chargers, Tahoes, Durangos and Silverados with mileage and mechanical issues; a commissioner moved to approve the surplus list, the motion was seconded and carried. The board also adopted the proposed budget calendar: recommended dates include departmental presentations (library, DSS and health on April 13; EMS, solid waste and sheriff on April 16; Wilson Community College and Wilson County Schools on April 21), the managers budget presentation May 4 and a budget public hearing May 28. The board voted to approve the proposed schedule.
Commissioner Roger Lucas moved to appoint Will Webb to the Wilson County Board of Health; the motion was seconded and carried. Managers updates and an audit committee report were also delivered earlier in the meeting. The board concluded public business by voting to enter a closed session on personnel matters under cited North Carolina statutes.
