The Glendora Board of Library Trustees received the library's midyear statistics and budget reports and took steps to pursue two separate administrative issues: an update on the city manager's search for a library director and discussion of a backup plan in case the library building becomes unsafe.
A trustee asked for a formal update on what the city manager has determined about the search for a qualified library director or the prospect of promoting from within; the request was seconded and carried after an oral roll call. The transcript shows Trustees Long, Hall, Johnson, Vice President Bogle and President Landman recording "Aye." The board did not specify a date to receive that update.
Trustees also raised concerns about the library's structural integrity. A trustee said a structural assessment was done "3 years ago" and that the building's lifespan was estimated at 10 years, which the trustee said leaves approximately seven years remaining. That trustee asked for a "Plan B" for staff and public safety if the building is later deemed unsafe; the request received a second and staff recorded the motion as made by Erica Landman and Carrie Johnson.
Interim Library Director Cindy Romero reported that recent rains produced some standard water intrusion but nothing unexpected, thanked Public Works for assistance with buckets and ceiling tiles, and noted the city council would discuss possible one-time funding sources and midyear budget updates at its next meeting. Romero also reminded the board the library will close for a spring staff development day and highlighted outreach efforts including the "I Love My Library" display and upcoming watercolor programs.
On the consent calendar, a motion to receive and file the library's midyear statistics and budget reports (items 3 and 4) was made, seconded and carried 5-0.
The board closed the meeting after brief closing comments and adjourned at 7:20 p.m.
