Plumas County formally recognizes Plumas Housing Council, appoints county advisory member

The Plumas County Board of Supervisors on Feb. 10 approved a resolution formally acknowledging the Plumas Housing Council and confirming the county’s intent to participate as an advisory board member.

Planning Director Tracy Ferguson presented the resolution and membership agreement, telling the board the council, formed after the 2021 Dixie Fire, has grown to more than 70 regional members and now includes governance documents and a facilitator role supported by initial funding from the Dixie Fire Collaborative. Ferguson said the council’s mission is to “support countywide housing efforts by aligning and coordinating programs, projects, and leaders while promoting collaborative solutions that create sustainable, attainable, and community rooted housing for all.”

Ferguson asked the board to appoint an advisory representative and an alternate; the item’s discussion named Planning Commissioner Jack Montgomery as an engaged participant. Supervisor Goss moved approval and the board carried the resolution on a roll-call vote. Roll-call results recorded Supervisors Engle, McGowan and Goss and Chair Hall voting yes.

The resolution notes that state law supersedes any authority of the housing council and directs county staff to coordinate with the council on governance and agenda review when county positions are contemplated. The council’s work includes projects such as Welcome Home Greenville and Built for Plumas; Ferguson said a one-year facilitator position has secured initial funding and that Plumas Rural Services will help continue coordination.

The board’s action acknowledges the council’s role in post-fire housing recovery and aims to provide a formal point of contact for county communications and participation going forward.
