Yuba County recognizes new Yuba Sutter Food Policy Council, cites goals to boost local food access

The Yuba County Board of Supervisors on Jan. 28 unanimously adopted a resolution recognizing the Yuba Sutter Food Policy Council, a cross-sector group launched last October to strengthen local food systems.
Marnie, representing the council, told the board the group's mission is "Together, we grow a resilient, nourishing, equitable food system for Yuba Sutter" and described five strategic priorities: growing the local supply chain, building healthy food skills, ensuring council sustainability, bolstering food rescue and recovery, and increasing access to affordable healthy foods. She said the county health department's eligibility unit is acting as a backbone organization to support the council's work.
Board members asked about school-district participation and encouraged engagement with schools to increase local-produce use in cafeterias. The board moved to adopt the recognizing resolution and voted in favor without dissent.
Marnie invited board members to join the council and said action plans and subcommittees are being formed. The resolution is a formal acknowledgment meant to increase collaboration between county government, nonprofits, growers and institutions.
