Board approves MOU placing a campus resource officer at Yuba College; one abstention

The Yuba County Board of Supervisors on Jan. 28 approved a memorandum of understanding with Yuba Community College District to place a county deputy as a campus resource officer at the Marysville campus.
Sheriff Anderson described an arrangement in which the college will pay the deputy's salary and benefits and donate a 2023 Ford Explorer to the sheriff's office. The MOU runs until 2029 and allows either party to cancel with 30 days' notice, Anderson said. The college previously disbanded its police department in the prior year; the MOU formalizes county-provided coverage the sheriff said has been provided informally since that time.
Supervisor Vasquez moved to approve the MOU; Supervisor Fuhrer recorded an "abstain, indirect interest" on the roll call, and the motion passed with the remaining supervisors voting in favor. No public commenters spoke on the item.
County staff said supplemental agreements will address required law enforcement presence for sporting events, using reserve deputies when needed. The board did not specify the deputy's start date beyond the parties' intent to assign someone "as soon as possible upon signature."
