Yuba County achieves Blue Zones Project worksite approval countywide

Yuba County announced countywide approval as a Blue Zones Project worksite on June 24, a designation county staff said recognizes workplace policies and programs that promote employee well-being. Assistant HR Director Karen Fassler said approval covers previously certified locations including probation, the sheriff's facilities, Health and Human Services and the government center.
Christina Espinosa, the county's Blue Zones Project lead, described practical changes that contributed to the designation: discounted gym memberships, checkout bike pedals, walking routes in Health and Human Services, wellness challenges and new flexible workspace arrangements. Espinosa said employee-reported wellness measures have improved since the initiative's rollout.
Fassler announced a small county celebration July 22 at the government center, and Espinosa credited staff champions Salvador "Sal" Martinez and department-level leaders for scaling the program across multiple locations. Board members thanked staff for the departmental efforts that enabled the countywide recognition.
The board received the update; no action was required.
