Yuba County approves search‑and‑rescue grant, school resource officer and dispatch agreements

Sheriff Wendell Anderson requested and the board approved authority to accept a Direct Relief grant to equip the county’s Technical Search and Rescue team; Lieutenant J.D. Parker was present to answer technical and procurement questions.
The board also approved a five‑year service agreement with Wheatland Union High School District to provide one deputy as a school resource officer at Wheatland High School. Anderson said the district will pay the deputy’s full salary and benefits and provide a vehicle for the assignment; the contract includes county budget adjustment language for a new allocation to staff the position.
Finally, the board ratified a service agreement with the city of Marysville to provide one public‑safety dispatcher for the Marysville Fire Department. Sheriff Anderson and Communications Manager Rachel Nauman said the addition of a dispatcher will be funded by the contract and vacancy savings and will help accommodate calls for service emanating from District 10 and state highways.
All three items passed by roll call; the sheriff’s office indicated the agreements are intended to strengthen local emergency response while shifting operational costs or providing direct grant funding for new personnel and equipment.
