Sutter County issues proclamations for suicide prevention, preparedness and Hispanic Heritage Month; CAO announces new hires

SUTTER COUNTY — The Sutter County Board of Supervisors used the opening of its Sept. 9 meeting to issue several proclamations and make personnel announcements.
The board proclaimed September 2025 as National Suicide Prevention Month and recognized Sept. 10, 2025 as World Suicide Prevention Day. Rick Bingham and Health & Human Services staff received the proclamation; Bingham highlighted local prevention steps and promoted the Bridging Hope suicide-prevention walk scheduled for Sept. 20 at the Yuba County Government Center.
The board also recognized September as National Preparedness Month, with staff and emergency-management personnel urging residents to sign up for CodeRed and consult Zonehaven and Ready.gov for preparedness guidance. Sonia Pimentel, president of the Alliance for Hispanic Advancement, received a proclamation recognizing Sept. 15–Oct. 15, 2025 as Hispanic Heritage Month; Pimentel thanked the board and described the alliance’s community work.
County Administrator Steve Smith introduced new employees: Jay James Stevens (assistant director of development services), Jake Abbott (public information officer) and Matt Robertson (deputy county administrator), each speaking briefly. Smith also noted upcoming community events including the Bridging Hope walk on Sept. 20 and the Recovery Happens picnic on Sept. 11.
A single public commenter, Tony Farley of Northview City, offered remarks of thanks to local officials and staff; his comments did not request board action.
