Board approves $137,499 adjustment to Agricultural Commissioner budget

Nicholas Oliver, assistant agricultural commissioner, asked the Sutter County Board of Supervisors on May 27 to approve an adjustment to the department’s FY 2024-25 budget increasing appropriations by $137,499 to recognize late-arriving pesticide mill assessment revenue. Oliver said the county received $140,037 from that revenue source and sought to allocate funds to salaries and benefits, services and supplies, and capital assets including two vehicles and a piece of equipment.
Oliver outlined the specific allocations: $15,707 to permanent salaries to fill vacant positions, $28,996 for services and supplies, $4,612 for capital asset equipment (completion of a previously approved water bench project) and $33,776 and $54,408 for two capital-asset vehicles (a small truck and a crew cab four-wheel-drive vehicle). He said there is a net zero fiscal impact to the general fund for FY 2024-25 and noted consultation with UC Cooperative Extension about transfers of replaced vehicles.
Following brief board questions about leasing versus purchasing vehicles and the county’s procurement options, Supervisor Ziggermeyer moved to approve the recommendation and Supervisor Banes seconded. The board adopted the budget adjustment by roll-call vote: Supervisor Boone – Yes; Supervisor Flores – Aye; Supervisor Ziggermeyer – Aye; Supervisor Banes – Aye; Supervisor Stevens – Aye.
The item passed and will be implemented in the current fiscal year as described in the staff report.
