Sutter County honors retiring public guardian and issues multiple proclamations for public-safety and community observances

Short said, “I would just like to say thank you. I’m very humbled and proud to have served this community for 32 years and every day felt like I made a difference in our community to help others have a little bit better life.” Health & Human Services Director Sarah Eberhart Rios praised Short’s judgment and compassion during conservatorship work.
The board also issued the following proclamations and recognitions during the meeting: a proclamation recognizing April 13–19, 2025 as Dispatch Appreciation Week in Sutter County; a proclamation recognizing 04/29/2025 as National Fentanyl Awareness Day and calling attention to the risks presented by illicit fentanyl; a proclamation declaring May 4 as International Firefighters Day; a proclamation recognizing May 4–10, 2025 as National Correctional Officers and Employees Week; a declaration of May 2025 as National Small Business Week; recognition of May 2025 as National Nurses Week; and recognition of May 2025 as National Bike Month, including mention of Sutter County’s 108 miles of bikeways and the 10-mile Yuba City–Sutter Bike Trail. Several local organization representatives and department leaders accepted the proclamations and thanked the board.
Why it matters: the proclamations publicly acknowledge county employees, volunteer first responders, and community programs and promote awareness campaigns the county supports. The retirement recognition documents a long-serving public guardian’s departure and the county’s institutional gratitude.
