Board adopts fee schedule to bill for building and fire‑marshal inspections

The Sutter County Board of Supervisors on Feb. 25 approved a revised fee schedule for the Development Services Department to permit billing for building‑division services and fire‑marshal inspections, effective April 1, 2025.
Neil Hayes presented the schedule, noting the department hired a retired annuitant (Jim Matthews) to perform fire‑marshal work while the county fills a permanent role following the retirement of the prior fire services manager. Staff based charges on departmental labor rates that the auditor‑controller reviews annually, and accounted for state‑mandated inspections and typical commercial and residential inspection types.
Hayes said some facilities subject to these inspections are located within the City of Yuba City but remain within county jurisdiction for certain services. If the board approved the schedule, staff will incorporate the fees into the county’s building‑permit software to allow billing.
The board closed the public hearing, moved to approve, and adopted the resolution by unanimous roll call.
