Superintendent gives midyear update; district awarded $192,000 Strong Workforce grant

Superintendent Perkins provided the board a midyear evaluation of district systems and progress toward board goals, focusing on social-emotional learning, academic achievement and innovation and engagement. The superintendent highlighted districtwide counseling supports, SEL lessons, expanded use of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), and early-literacy efforts using DIBELS and UFLI frameworks. He reported that this year all groups on the California School Dashboard show satisfactory progress, while acknowledging math remains an area for continued growth.
District staff announced the district was awarded the Strong Workforce Partnership grant for the fourth consecutive year, receiving $192,000 for the current year. Staff said Dream, LMS and TDS will be served by this award: Dream and TDS will use funds to purchase Paxton Patterson labs, pay for professional development and release time for teachers; LMS will use funds to expand its FFA program and update its chicken coop and hands-on opportunities.
The superintendent also reviewed LCAP-related activities: a midyear LCAP update is scheduled for February and the district is launching 'thought exchanges' to gather input from parents, teachers, staff and students. Trustees were asked to continue oversight of implementation, monitor progress indicators and support sustained practice.
No policy changes or new contractual commitments were announced at the meeting; the grant award was presented as an existing competitive award to be used by the listed campuses.
