LifeTown director asks committee to create lifetime specialty plate to fund programs for students with disabilities

Kaltman described LifeTown as a 5,000-square-foot indoor "mini city" that provides hands-on life, social and pre-employment skills to students with disabilities and said the facility serves more than 5,000 students annually. Under the bill as explained to the committee, Ohioans who choose the plate would pay an additional $25; $15 of that fee would go directly to LifeTown programming while $10 would cover administrative costs at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
Kaltman said the plate would create a sustainable, dedicated funding source that could expand LifeTown's programs statewide without impacting the state's general fund. He asked the committee to report the bill favorably and thanked Senators Craig and Patton for their support. No committee vote on SB 228 was recorded during this session.
