Hobbs board approves K–12 math materials; district recommends Eureka and Great Minds

District instructional staff briefed the board on a multi-stage review that led to recommendations for new math instructional materials: Eureka for elementary classrooms and Great Minds resources for secondary grades.

Staff said they conducted timelines and material reviews designed to meet the state statutory requirement for high-quality instructional materials. After the presentation a board member moved to consider the math adoption and another board member seconded the motion. The board voted by voice and the motion carried.

At the meeting, a staff speaker reminded trustees that adherence to state statute is required when adopting materials. No roll-call vote with individual member tallies was recorded in the minutes included in the packet; the board adopted the recommendation by voice vote during the meeting.

Administration said those adoptions are intended to support district-wide growth in mathematics and invited board members to ask questions; none were raised during the public motion and vote. Staff will proceed with implementation timelines and training associated with the adopted materials.
