Harbor master reports barge and skiff maintenance complete, dock box repairs underway

Harbor master Frank reported routine but substantial maintenance work at the Feb. 23 Port Authority meeting, saying crews completed major repairs on the large barge and are finishing work on the Carolina skiff.
"We finished up work on the big barge," Frank said, listing new bottom paint, top‑side paint, rebuilt bearings and jack plates that raise and lower motors by roughly six inches for shallow water work. He said the hydraulic power supply and the welder/generator had their oil, spark plugs and filters checked, and batteries were replaced. Frank added that crews need to reattach spuds before returning the barge to the water.
He said the Carolina skiff is in the shop for similar maintenance — bottom painting, bilge pump checks, and replacement of a damaged shift or throttle cable — and that dock box repairs are nearly complete. Frank estimated that within two to three weeks charter operators may begin bringing boats back into the water.
The board had no substantive questions on the maintenance report, and Frank closed his update when no members asked follow‑ups.
