Board backs letter supporting federal funding for North Lyon ladder truck

The Lyon County Board of County Commissioners on Feb. 19 approved a letter of support for North Lyon County Fire Protection District’s federal funding request to acquire a replacement aerial ladder truck. Joe Mendoza, who identified himself as a town chief and North Lyon representative, told the board the department’s ladder truck has been out of service for about four to five years and that repairs would exceed the vehicle’s likely auction value.
Mendoza asked commissioners to advocate with members of Congress and senators; commissioners agreed to sign a letter of support and asked Mendoza to email a summary of the need and background details so commissioners could carry the request to congressional offices during upcoming travel. The motion to approve the letter passed 5–0.
Commissioners and public commenters underscored the ladder truck’s importance for protecting commercial and industrial exposures in the northern part of the county and asked the fire district to supply documentation to support advocacy.
The approved action is a letter of support only; any federal award and subsequent procurement would be handled by the fire protection district and relevant federal agencies.
