Yuba County renews regional economic development contracts, keeps GSEC representative

YUBA COUNTY, Calif. ' The Yuba County Board of Supervisors voted June 24 to approve two economic development agreements for fiscal year 2025-26: continuing partnerships with the Yuba Sutter Economic Development Corporation (YSEDC) and the Greater Sacramento Economic Council (GSEC).
Ashley Petochnik, business engagement manager in Community Development Services, told the board the two contracts support five county economic-development pillars including strategic planning, business retention and attraction, workforce development and small-business support. She said YSEDC administers local business loan gap funding and leads the federally required comprehensive economic development strategy (SEDS) that enables access to federal grant funding; GSEC provides corporate lead generation, site selection help and regional data research.
Board members emphasized that the two organizations serve complementary roles: YSEDC focuses on the Yuba-Sutter area while GSEC represents the broader Greater Sacramento region. The agreements allow the county to expand reach when competing for investment and to tap regional resources, Petochnik said.
Supervisors moved and seconded approval and discussed appointing a Yuba County representative to GSEC. The chair indicated he currently serves as the county's GSEC representative and was willing to continue; the board unanimously approved the agreements and the representative arrangement.
County staff said partnerships with regional economic development organizations will continue to be used for business attraction, retention and accessing federal grants for infrastructure projects.
