Sutter County employee union urges county to cover larger share of 21.9% health-insurance increase

Chandra Tucker, an Interpreter Counselor II with Sutter County Behavioral Health and president of the Sutter County Employees Association (AFSCME Council 57), told the Board of Supervisors in public comment that her union is negotiating with the county over health-care cost-sharing.
Tucker said county HR data show next year's insurance rates are projected to increase 21.9 percent and that the current 50/50 county-employee cost split will be "financially devastating to many members," particularly those on non-high-deductible plans. The union asked the board to consider an 80/20 employer-employee split for premium increases and to review health-care rates and contributions.
Tucker identified herself as union president and a member of the negotiations team and thanked the board for placing some funds "on the table," but said more is needed to address increased premiums. The board did not act on the union request during the meeting; staff and negotiators will continue contract discussions.
