Sutter County honors longtime clerk, Salvation Army leader and county employees

At its June meeting the Sutter County Board of Supervisors presented several awards and resolutions recognizing long-serving staff and community leaders.
The board read and adopted a gold resolution honoring Donna Johnston, Sutter County Clerk-Recorder, Registrar of Voters and Clerk of the Board, for 35 years of service. The resolution recounted Johnston's start in county service in June 1990, appointment as Clerk-Recorder in 2008, election victories through 2022, and leadership work including receiving a clearinghouse award from the U.S. Elections Assistance Commission and delivering electronically certified vital records using blockchain technology. Representatives from Senator Megan Dahle's, Assemblymember James Gallagher's and Congresswoman LaMalfa's offices presented joint resolutions and certificates of thanks.
The board also adopted a resolution recognizing Major Julius Murphy of the Salvation Army for more than six years of service leading local homelessness and workforce pilot efforts (Pathways to Work) and wished him well as he transitions to a role in Alameda County. Major Murphy addressed the board and thanked county residents and staff.
Separately the board presented certificates recognizing Scott Brooks and Robert Tan as the 2024 Peace Officers of the Year and presented 10-year service awards to Cole Evans and Jeremy Jenkins. Recipients thanked the community and their coworkers during brief remarks.
