SACOG presents 2025 regional blueprint; warns of funding shortfalls and invites local input

A representative from the Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG) presented the agency's 2025 regional blueprint to the Sutter County Board, outlining the policy framework, outreach and the funding implications for transportation and housing over the next 30 years.
Clint (SACOG) said the plan was developed around coequal goals of equity, economy and environment and that SACOG had extended its schedule to conduct broader community outreach. He described the region as growing from about 2.5 million people today to roughly 3.0 million by 2050 and said SACOG's technical work identifies roughly $14 billion in road-and-highway expansion projects while available funding can cover only about half of those ambitions. "We are short, by around $500,000,000 a year region wide on just maintaining the system that we have," he said.
Clint encouraged Sutter County staff and supervisors to engage during SACOG's public-comment period and to consider applying for SACOG grant programs such as Green Means Go, which funds non-transportation infrastructure that enables infill development, and other implementation programs that fund local projects and mobility improvements. The SACOG public comment period and related materials were described as available on SACOG’s website and the board was urged to coordinate with staff before the plan is finalized.
