Sutter County tentatively approves $518.3 million FY 2025-26 budget

The Sutter County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously at its June meeting to give tentative approval to the county's recommended fiscal year 2025-26 budget of $518,257,211, county budget staff said.

County budget staff presented five attachments that accompany the recommended budget and asked the board to approve the tentative budget so purchases and staffing changes can proceed July 1. "This approval will allow us to continue operations until the budget is adopted in September," the presenter said.

The staff report lists total capital assets of $4,944,393 and capital projects of $4,797,373, largely for road projects and some Health and Human Services structures and improvements. Attachment D documents net position changes; staff highlighted a restructuring in the District Attorney's office that removes a DDA-flex position and adds a senior criminal investigator, with plans to adjust those positions again when additional investigator positions open.

Attachment E covers general fund operating transfers used for health, welfare, trial court and public safety functions. Budget staff told the board earlier presentations had provided detailed project lists and that the full recommended budget is available online and as a hard copy at the county library and county administrator's office.

Supervisors praised staff for detailed, transparent work and asked follow-up questions about specific grants and projects. The board recorded a roll-call vote and the chair announced the ayes had it.

The tentative approval permits staff to begin purchases and staffing actions ahead of final budget adoption in September; the board will return for a public hearing and final vote later in the budget cycle.
