Siskiyou County approves purchase of 10 Zoll auto‑pulse CPR devices for CSA 3 responders

The Siskiyou County board, sitting as the CSA 3 board, approved a request to obtain 10 Zoll auto‑pulse mechanical CPR devices to replace units reaching end of life.
Adam Heilman, staff service analyst for Siskiyou County Office of Emergency Services, told the board the existing devices (initially bought in 2009) are approaching end of life and parts and service are no longer available from the manufacturer. The CSA 3 advisory committee unanimously recommended procurement of the Zoll band-style auto‑pulse device and described an option from the vendor to defer payments over six years.
Heilman said the devices improve out‑of‑hospital resuscitation by allowing continuous compressions during patient movement and reduce complications when agencies use different devices in the field. The committee recommended assignment of the new devices to Mount Shasta Ambulance, McCloud Ambulance, Dunsmuir Fire Department, Weed Fire Department, Lake Shastina and Cal Fire units operating within CSA 3.
Directors approved the recommendation by roll call. The board asked staff to ensure devices remain assigned within CSA 3 when engines or ambulances are reassigned and to consider equipment coverage for first‑responder fire agencies.
Board members asked for clarification on Mount Shasta Ambulance device assignments and local coverage; Heilman said Mount Shasta Ambulance historically carried multiple devices and the CSA 3-funded units would remain within the CSA 3 coverage area.
