Committee appoints Charlie Eldridge to McHenry County Historic Preservation Commission

The McHenry County Planning, Environment and Development Committee moved to appoint Charlie Eldridge to the county Historic Preservation Commission following an interview in which Eldridge outlined decades of local preservation work.
Eldridge told the committee he has "served the county in various capacities for the last 35 years," said he was a founder of the County Economic Development Corporation and described himself as a charter member of the County Historical Society dating to 1963. He said his family has deep roots in the area and that he wants to pursue "adaptive reuses for historic structures" so preservation remains economically viable.
Committee members praised Eldridge's experience. During the motion and vote sequence, one member said they "might have to abstain" but the committee recorded ayes and moved the nomination forward; the remote member Dina explicitly voted yes during the roll call on the motion.
The committee's recommendation to appoint Eldridge will be forwarded to county administration for placement on the Historic Preservation Commission roster.
