Grand jury: The board considered a request from the grand jury for dedicated meeting space and a stipend increase. Shannon, the court executive officer, said the courtroom could be offered during business hours subject to calendar constraints and confidentiality concerns and offered a locked file-cabinet option for documentation. The board moved to increase the grand-jury per diem from $25 to $50 to encourage participation and adopted a proclamation recognizing January 2026 as Grand Jury Works Month. Staff will coordinate scheduling and secure storage and report back with logistics.
Other business: County staff also presented a CalMHSA agreement not to exceed $17,028 for external quality review and discussed a range of recruitment, procurement, and budget items; several items were referred to staff and the finance committee for final numbers.
The meeting concluded with a presentation of a broad set of recently passed or pending state bills affecting law enforcement, probation, juvenile justice and related mandates, and the board then announced it would go into closed session for anticipated litigation and personnel matters.
