DSS reports foster-care declines and staff promotions; child-care subsidy freeze noted

DSS Director Tracy said the number of children in foster care for the reported month dropped to 34, crediting staff work that led some children to permanency. She highlighted a child-support collection of $13,750.18 in a single case by staff member Andy Sexton, and announced that long-serving foster-care supervisor Ed Hurst is retiring and Alyssa Triplett will take over the position in February after a shadowing period.
Tracy also noted a national funding freeze announced for the Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF) affecting five states due to fraud concerns; North Carolina had already issued January subsidy payments and the county’s January disbursements were secure. She said there were no children on the county’s child-care subsidy waiting list as of the statistics presented and encouraged residents who think they qualify to apply.
