Committee adopts HCR 7 to recognize updated SR‑9 scenic byway plan

The Center of Transportation, Public Utilities, Energy and Technology Standing Committee on Thursday favorably recommended HCR 7, a concurrent resolution adopting an updated corridor management plan for State Route 9, the scenic route through Washington County and Zion National Park.
Representative Lisonbee told the committee the corridor, originally designated a Scenic Byway in 1990, has produced a new management plan developed with local input. “The packet I gave you gives you all the secrets, the coolest places to go see,” she said, and noted that five municipalities and both counties held public hearings and passed supporting resolutions.
Lisonbee said the resolution responds to state code “72,431.5,” which, as she described it, requires a concurrent resolution for adoption of an updated corridor plan. Director Carlos Braceras, called in for other items, did not contest local support. Senator Winterton moved a favorable recommendation; the committee placed the resolution on the consent calendar and recommended it unanimously to the full Senate.
The committee took no further public testimony on the item. The resolution will next appear before the full Senate for consideration.
