Plum Borough SD recognizes sectional champions and senior athletes at Nov. 11 meeting

The Plum Borough School District board publicly recognized multiple fall athletic teams and individual athletes during its Nov. 11 meeting.

Athletic director Drew Carpin introduced honorees from boys golf, cross country, girls soccer and boys soccer. Assistant coach Mike Muschroll said the boys golf team finished the season with notable individual results: "Ethan shot a 74 in the section qualifier and finished second," he said, and four players qualified for the Whippio individual championships.

Cross-country coach Bridal Kennedy highlighted senior Maya Torres, who qualified for the PIAA state championship and became the first Plum girl to reach that level since 2016. Maya described plans to continue running in college and to pursue an economics major with a future law degree.

Girls soccer coach Jamie Stewart said the program won its seventh straight section title, reached the Whitfield semifinals and finished the season 17–3. Stewart noted individual performances: Emily Grubich was credited with 15 goals and eight assists; goalie Melaina Smith was noted for 12 shutouts. "We had 38 players and four managers this year," Stewart said in describing the depth of the squad.

Boys soccer coach Ralph Kulinkowski recounted recent memorable wins and praised the contributions of a smaller senior class. Several senior athletes — including Marco Tomasino, who said he plans to attend nursing school — spoke briefly to thank coaches and families.

All athletic recognitions were presented as part of the recognitions portion early in the meeting; the board offered congratulations and appreciation to coaches and student-athletes.
