Prairie Meadows, Polk County present $31,983.64 check to Dallas Center-Grimes schools

Prairie Meadows and Polk County officials visited the Dallas Center-Grimes School District on Feb. 24 to present a per-capita funding check of $31,983.64 to the district.

"My name is Brian Orelko. I'm the president and CEO at Prairie Meadows," Orelko said, thanking the district for hosting the presentation. Polk County Supervisor Jill Altriner said the county's partnership with Prairie Meadows distributes proceeds per county student and has returned more than $21,600,000 to Polk County students since 2007. "This year is over $1,300,000 alone," Altriner said.

Altriner said the county and Prairie Meadows have been coordinating on projects beyond one-time checks, citing anti-human-trafficking efforts and a planned mobile clothing trailer to serve students in need. Board members invited district staff and board members to gather for a photo with the presenters.

The check presentation was on the meeting agenda as a non-action item; the board expressed gratitude for the contribution and accepted the presentation. The district later approved a resolution to apply for a Prairie Meadows community betterment grant to support band uniforms and other activities.

Next steps: the district will accept the funds and incorporate them into its current budget planning and program spending as permitted by grant terms.
