Port Jervis — At its meeting, the Common Council approved several routine but consequential items, including a personnel appointment, grant authorization, equipment sale and payments from multiple municipal funds.
The council appointed Natasha Wallace to the position of full‑time municipal bus route scheduler at a salary of $22.12 per hour, effective Sept. 15, 2025, subject to submission of required employment documentation; the appointment followed an executive‑session discussion of a DPW personnel vacancy and passed by council motion.
Under police business the council authorized Mayor Sikowis or his designee to accept $22,477 from the New York State Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee for participation in a Police Traffic Services program scheduled for February 2026.
The council also authorized the sale of a surplus 2013 Ford Taurus (VIN 1FAHP2M88DG152881) to the Town of Deer Park Police Department for $1. The motion to sell the vehicle passed.
Finance reported bills to be paid totaling $270,232.47 across the general, water, sewer, capital and trust and agency funds, including named payees; the council moved to pay the bills and approved the expenditures.
Other votes and approvals included setting public hearings for two proposed local laws (Local Law No. 6 of 2025 on a hotel room occupancy tax and Local Law No. 7 of 2025 to override the tax levy limit) for Sept. 22, approval of the Christkindlmarket permit for Nov. 30, authorization to submit a FY2025–26 recruitment and retention grant application for the Port Jervis Fire Department, approval of fall festival vendor liquor permits, and a six‑year appointment for City Assessor Heather Marino beginning Oct. 1, 2025.
The meeting concluded after a series of announcements about community events, DPW schedules and upcoming board meetings.
