Port Jervis to hire engineer for Jersey Avenue streetscape, demolition targeted for spring

Mayor announced a major downtown revitalization project for Jersey Avenue, saying the city has completed bidding for engineering services and will hire the recommended firm at tonight's meeting. "When the weather breaks for spring, our laborers will begin the demo process of this project entirely on Jersey Avenue," the mayor said.
City officials said the work will be performed in part by the Department of Public Works in house. The mayor emphasized the timeline and funding conditions: "Weather and funding permitted, the project will include new sidewalks... We anticipate this project to conclude before '26."
The address did not include a formal vote tally or contract amount for the engineering services; the mayor said the council would act on the recommendation at the meeting. The next procedural step cited was hiring the engineer and beginning the design phase; a construction timeline will follow after the design is complete.
