A presenter identified on the record as Carter told the council the session could be held Monday, Sept. 21, or Tuesday, Sept. 22, with formal resolutions, brief remarks by legislative leaders and a tented space adjacent to the Old Courthouse in Newcastle to accommodate attendees. Carter said archives staff would help produce printed booklets and illustrations for distribution at the event.
“Because of the very limited space in the old courthouse, we would propose getting a large tent to set up on the grounds adjacent to the courthouse,” Carter said during the presentation.
Members asked about coordination with the City of Newcastle, accommodations for members from Kent and Sussex counties and logistical issues such as video coverage and historical materials. Carter said staff from the Division of Legislative Services and the Division of Information Technology would visit Newcastle and work with local officials if the council approved planning.
Representative Spiegelman and others suggested light thematic elements, including period dress, while some members noted travel and space constraints for colleagues outside New Castle County.
The council approved the motion to move forward with planning by roll call, recorded as 9 yes, 1 absent.
Next steps include outreach to Newcastle officials, coordination by Legislative Services and Archives staff on materials, and logistical planning for video coverage and on-site accommodations.
