New Forest Service supervisor introduced in Plumas County; agency reports prescribed burning and timber activity

The Plumas County Board of Supervisors heard from the U.S. Forest Service at its Jan. 6 meeting as officials introduced Laura Schweitzer as the new forest supervisor for the National Forest.
“My name is Laura Schweitzer, and I am here the new forest supervisor on the National Forest,” Schweitzer said, adding that she began in mid‑September and is a native Californian who has settled in Quincy.
Local Forest Service staff reported timber activity and fuels work: seven active sales at Beckport and nine at Mount Hough, and, according to the update, "about 4,000 acres" of prescribed burning countywide so far in the fiscal year. Staff said additional prescribed burns are planned weather permitting and that district rangers will provide periodic updates to the board.
Board members thanked the agency for regular updates and asked whether the Forest Service could occasionally cover activity on the Lassen National Forest as well, so the county receives a fuller regional picture. The Forest Service speaker said they would coordinate to bring a report from the Lassen when feasible.
The presentation was given during the public comment and departmental reporting portions of the meeting; no formal board action was taken on forest policies at this session.
