Commissioners fund permanent AC for youth center; agree to share hazmat equipment with city

A youth-center representative (Speaker 9) described routine summertime conditions and health incidents: "It's literally unhealthy...we have kids that have to go home...we have parents complain saying that...heat exhaustion, they've taken kids to the hospital after leaving." County staff reported an updated installation quote of $50,715 (previously estimated at about $32,000) and urged moving ahead before an anticipated March price increase.
The court approved a motion to install the system and directed staff to seek a final electrical quote for work from the building to the pole.
Separately, commissioners discussed a city–county hazmat supplies use agreement to purchase suits and consumables so newly certified county hazmat technicians can respond without calling out an external team. "It's around 9,000 ish, for hazmat suits, everything we needed for that kind of response," a speaker said while outlining Level B suits, absorbents and other consumables. Commissioners indicated emergency management funds would pay for the equipment and confirmed suits require periodic inspection and testing.
Staff indicated the hazmat equipment would be available for city and county responses and that the formal agreement would set sharing terms.
