Milton board reviews HYA leadership profile, finalizes interview schedule for superintendent search

The Milton School District Board of Education reviewed a leadership profile compiled by consultant HYA and finalized the schedule for superintendent interviews. HYA representative Mike Ritchie told the board the profile summarized focus-group themes and a district survey of 219 respondents, noting “83% speak very, very highly of your district.” The board was told the final report and materials will be posted on the district and HYA websites.
The profile, Ritchie said, highlights district strengths—academic excellence, student-centered learning, leadership stability and community pride—and recurring challenges including financial sustainability, staffing and managing growth. The HYA presentation described desired qualities for the next superintendent: visibility in schools, transparent communication, ethical leadership and a focus on student-centered outcomes.
Board members discussed logistics for candidate visits: a full interview day on March 14 with coffee and snacks and a March 18 “day in the district” including lunch and community sessions; a final round of interviews is scheduled for March 19 with a tentative special board meeting to approve a candidate to be scheduled in March. Administrators also said a draft superintendent contract has been prepared and will be reviewed in executive session later in the meeting.
Mike Ritchie provided an application update: 18 completed applications and one incomplete application were in the portal, and the application window closes March 2 at 11:59 p.m. The district will screen and vet applicants after the closing date. The board emphasized the report should be posted publicly; administration said the materials and the leadership profile would appear on the district website and HYA site after internal review.
The meeting moved to executive session later that night to deliberate the superintendent contract and candidate employment matters under Wisconsin Statute §19.85.
