Jefferson County council advances plan to rename administration center for Ken Waller

The Jefferson County Council voted unanimously to advance an ordinance that would rename the Jefferson County Administration Center the Ken Waller Memorial Building.
Supporters — including State Representative William "Bill" Lucas and Representative Cicely Williams — spoke during public comment and described Waller’s long service to the county and state. "There's nobody I know who cares about Jefferson County ... more than Ken Waller did," Representative Lucas said. Representative Williams called naming the building "a continual legacy for his family, for all of us who have worked so hard for Jefferson County." Marco Zoleda Bridal, a resident who said he worked with Turning Point USA, also urged the council to approve the measure.
On the council floor, members recounted Waller’s roles as the county’s first county executive and later as county treasurer and clerk, and several members said his service justified the recognition. Councilman Crowe moved the ordinance (bill number 25-10277) on first reading to be approved and “moved to perfection”; the motion passed 6–0.
The ordinance will proceed through the council’s perfection process before a final vote; council members did not identify any funding implications tied directly to the renaming.
The action follows a round of public comments in which multiple speakers urged the council to memorialize Waller’s service. The next procedural step is the council’s perfection process, where the ordinance may be refined before final passage.
