Jefferson County council renames administration center for former County Executive Ken Waller

The Jefferson County Missouri County Council voted unanimously on the night of the meeting to perfect and finally pass Bill 25‑10277, an ordinance designating the Jefferson County Administration Center as the Ken Waller Memorial Building.

Public speaker Cindy, who identified her residence in Festus, urged the council to approve the measure, saying she ‘‘would like to encourage you and I would appreciate your support in favor of bill number 25‑10277.’’ Councilman Crowe sponsored the motion to move the measure forward, and after brief remarks the council voted 7‑0 to perfect and adopt the ordinance.

County Executive Gannon and several councilmembers thanked Ken Waller’s family and supporters; the executive recognized Mrs. Douglas and Waller’s wife, Trina, as present in the chamber. Councilman Crowe told the chamber he appreciated those who ‘‘came out this meeting and the previous [one] to support Ken Waller and the Waller family’’ and described the renaming as an appropriate memorial.

The ordinance was read aloud in full on the council floor before the vote. With the 7‑0 final tally, the administration center will hereafter be known as the Ken Waller Memorial Building.

The council moved the perfecting and final passage of Bill 25‑10277 early in the agenda at the request of supporters attending the meeting. The council recorded the motion and vote in the official minutes; no amendments or dissent were recorded.

What happens next: The ordinance takes effect according to the council’s normal procedures for adopted local legislation; council staff will update county signage and records to reflect the new name.
