County invited to regional emergency food-access planning session on March 2

Lori Wayne, the county’s Nutrition, Community Health and Food Systems Advisor, briefed the board on a USDA grant-funded regional project—Eastside Producers Informational Collaborative (EPIC)—that aims to build emergency food-access resilience across Modoc, Lassen, Sierra and Plumas counties.
Wayne outlined work already done: an inventory and map of regional food-system resources, surveys of producers and outlets, and outreach to community leaders to identify assets and gaps. She invited board members and county staff to an interactive facilitator-led session on Monday, March 2 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Niles, saying the meeting includes breakout work, asset analysis and lunch.
Why it matters: Wayne said most food consumed in Modoc County is brought from outside the county and that those supply routes are vulnerable to natural disasters and other disruptions. The EPIC project is intended to strengthen regional coordination so communities can maintain food access during supply-chain disruptions.
Next steps: Wayne asked supervisors to RSVP through county staff; she said facilitators from the Dawn Institute will lead the March 2 session and county staff will distribute invitations.
