Covington Staff Unveils LDC Packet 2, Invites Public to Open House on Code Updates

Evelyn Campo of Desire Line, consultant to the city, presented packet 2 of the Land Development Code (LDC) update and a proposed text change to City of Covington Code of Ordinances Chapter 86 (special events) and Chapter 110 (land development code). Campo said the packet aims to clarify and streamline procedures, make permitted-use tables and dimensional standards easier to read, specify when an application is considered complete, and add clarity on public-comment materials and conditional-use conditions.
Campo said the packet consolidates materials currently scattered across chapter 82 and appendices and that staff prepared both a clean copy and a redline copy to show edits. She noted one example change: recommending accessory dwelling units be permitted under 5,000 square feet in residential districts to reflect community demand. She emphasized the packet is not final and that staff welcome edits before eventual adoption by the council.
The consultant and staff invited commissioners and the public to an interactive open house at the Firehouse Event Center tomorrow from 5 to 7 p.m.; printed copies of the packet will be available and the packet is posted online. Commissioners were encouraged to review the materials and submit questions by email if they prefer.
The hearing was for discussion and deliberation only; the commission was told a public meeting would follow and no vote was taken on the code changes at this session.
