Verona Area School District reports heavy early use of employee clinic and preliminary claims‑avoidance estimates

Presenters reported nearly 100 percent appointment utilization in October and November, 924 total visits from October through December, 463 unique patients as of December and 550 unique patients in January. The presenters said those 550 unique patients represent about 30 percent of the total eligible population under the district's Dean Health insurance plan. Early claims‑avoidance analysis for the first three months (924 visits) estimated roughly $350,000 of avoided claims; administrators cautioned the figure represents claims avoidance and does not directly equate to immediate premium reductions.
The district said the clinic contract cost for the year is about $650,000 and that early utilization already covered more than half of that amount in claims avoidance metrics. Staff also emphasized co‑pay savings for employees (about $20 per visit) and highlighted specialty clinic days (vaccines, dermatology, hearing exams) as drivers of demand. Trustees asked for continued monitoring and clearer linkage between visit metrics, claims avoidance estimates, and actual insurance renewal outcomes.
Administration said they will continue targeted outreach to dependents and spouses, refine scheduling at a satellite site (Savannah Oaks), expand specialty days, and report additional financial and utilization data to the board in future updates.
