Mona City Council approves garbage pickup contract, OKs sewer audit funding

Jay Macom of Country Garbage told the council the company was not seeking a rate increase and described current household charges: "$9 for the first can, $8 for the second," and that green-waste or dumpster charges are handled through county billing. Macom said the company prefers a five-year contract but agreed to council discussion about a shorter term. "We're not asking for any increases," he said.
The council moved and seconded a resolution labeled 2026-3 to formalize the garbage pickup contract and voted to approve it. The meeting record shows council members voiced assent and the motion passed.
Separately, the council approved spending up to $9,800 to contract with Veolia Corporation for a sewer service audit. A motion was made, seconded, and the council voted to authorize the expenditure.
Council also reviewed and approved routine finances and payments since the prior meeting; the finance report noted two recently received grants (a cemetery digitization grant and funding for a 200 North waterline project) and identified some municipal accounts that are running low. Staff asked members to initial the related paperwork and the council approved the finance items by motion.
