The Health Advisory Committee approved minutes and the agenda by unanimous consent, welcomed two student members (including a student‑body president), and removed one applicant who did not meet the county residency requirement under the bylaws.
At its recent Health Advisory Committee meeting, Beaufort County committee members approved procedural business, confirmed new student appointments and applied the committee’s residency rule to an applicant.
With the meeting lacking a full quorum for part of the session, members nonetheless moved to approve the agenda with a single correction to the minutes’ date and recorded votes from members present. Tim Pierce moved to approve the agenda and the chair acknowledged the votes needed to count the online member so approval could proceed.
The committee then moved to approve the minutes from Nov. 17. Pierce moved to approve the minutes, a committee member seconded, and the committee approved the minutes unanimously after a requested name correction ('Amy Price' corrected to 'Amy Pryor').
On membership, Pryor announced two of the candidates approved by academic committee are current district students — one is the student body president at Beaufort High School and the other attends May River High School — and a third candidate is a district teacher. Committee members welcomed the students and noted they provide geographic representation across the district.
Pryor also said one otherwise highly qualified applicant had to be removed because the committee’s bylaws require members to live in Beaufort County; that applicant resides in neighboring Jasper County and therefore cannot be appointed under the current rules.
What happens next: Committee members plan to bring the approved names forward to the school board at the March 3 meeting for further action; the new PE and health coordinator is expected to join the March 30 HAC meeting to introduce himself to the committee.
