Board hears $1.19 million Achievement & Integration budget proposal, scheduled for March approval

Assistant Superintendent Niamboi presented an informational review of the Achievement & Integration budget the board will be asked to approve in March.
Niamboi said Minnesota’s Achievement and Integration program pursues racial and economic integration and sets goals to reduce academic disparities, increase access to effective and diverse teachers, and raise integration across schools. She said the 2027 achievement integration funds total $1,156,712.44 and incentive revenue is $38,148.40, making a proposed total of $1,194,860.84, an increase of roughly $4,500 from last year.
The presenter reviewed statutory constraints on spending: at least 80% of the budget must go to direct student services, no more than 20% to professional development and no more than 10% to administrative costs. Program uses include AVID, family engagement, professional development, enrichment and career and college readiness. Niamboi said supportive partnerships include work with Saint Anthony–New Brighton and targeted incentive programs to address disparities in specific student groups.
Board members asked clarifying questions about how per-pupil funding and incentive revenue are calculated, whether enrichment includes field trips and summer programs, and the use of funds for home-school liaison positions; Niamboi confirmed the per-pupil basis and that home-school liaison time is covered by the program.
