Rhode Island Senate adopts resolutions honoring educators, community services, health observances and historic commemoration

The Rhode Island Senate on Feb. 10 adopted a package of ceremonial resolutions honoring individuals, community services and health observances.

A resolution honoring James Parisi for three decades of service as a lobbyist for the Rhode Island Federation of Teachers and Health Professionals was read and adopted after several senators praised his institutional knowledge. President Gallo introduced the text and members offered personal remarks.

Senators also proclaimed Feb. 10, 2026, as United Way 2-1-1 Day and recognized the 2-1-1 service for connecting residents to housing, food, mental-health resources and disaster-response services; United Way staff and volunteers were introduced in the chamber.

Senator Vargas led a resolution declaring February 2026 Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Week. Vargas introduced Trishan Sarmiento and family members who attended the floor session; Senator Acosta, identifying himself as a heart warrior, seconded the resolution and urged attention to access to care.

The Senate adopted a resolution recognizing the First Rhode Island Regiment and its integrated composition during the Revolutionary War; Senator Ujifusa (as named on the floor) introduced reenactors and descendants in attendance. Separately, the chamber adopted a resolution expressing condolences on the passing of Thomas Joseph Holland and welcomed his daughter, Margaret Holland McDuff.

Finally, the Senate adopted a resolution recognizing February as National Children’s Dental Health Month, highlighting workforce shortages and state efforts such as public-health dental hygienists, mobile clinics, and school-based services to expand access. Several dental professionals and oral-health advocates present in the chamber were introduced.

All ceremonial resolutions on the floor that day were adopted by voice vote or unanimous consent as read.
