During public comment at the Duplin County consolidated human services board meeting, Deborah Morales, who identified herself as a child support unit employee at the Department of Social Services, urged the board not to privatize child support services.
"It's come to our attention that, apparently, privatizing child support has come up again, and I just wanted to make a comment on that about how it's very discouraging to hear that," Morales said. She described ongoing internal efforts to revamp child support processes and said supervisors are submitting proposals to leadership to demonstrate the department’s capacity to continue administering the program.
The comment period ended without a formal response recorded in the transcript; no formal action was taken regarding privatization during the meeting.
