Primary-school PLCs, new curriculum tool highlighted in CSIP update

Bolivar Primary School presenters told the board about Tier 1 instruction, individualized I-Ready usage, and a newly purchased curriculum-management tool from Step Up Consulting to help teachers align units, standards and assessments.
At the February meeting the board heard a focused CSIP (Comprehensive School Improvement Plan) update from Bolivar Primary School staff highlighting district priorities and classroom practices.
Dr. Tennyson (primary-school lead) and the primary-school team described Tier 1 instruction at the elementary level — a mix of whole-group, small-group and individualized learning. Teachers use I-Ready lessons to target individual student levels and reward gains (second graders sign a wall when they reach mastery). The presentation stressed that PLC (professional learning community) time is used weekly for teachers to update progress, plan interventions and align instruction.
The district recently purchased a curriculum-management platform from Step Up Consulting. Presenters said teachers can view units, the aligned assessments and the standards within the platform, enabling weekly updates and more consistent instruction across classrooms.
Board members and teachers discussed PLC benefits: sharing strategies, adjusting pacing guides, and using collaboration time to ensure a guaranteed and viable curriculum. The board welcomed plans to expand PLC time next year to allow more in-depth conversation about student progress.
Presenters closed by offering to answer questions and by noting teacher-created material — including a video by Braden that showcases classroom practices — will be shared with the board and community as examples of PLC work.
