Selma commission approves metal storefront sign at 100 South Pollock Street with conditions

The Selma Appearance Commission voted to approve a certificate of appropriateness for a proposed metal storefront sign at 100 South Pollock Street on Feb. 18, 2026. Commissioners approved the measure by voice vote after the applicant revised the plan to a single metal-faced wall sign and removed proposed garage-door changes.

The action follows a proposal that had been tabled at an earlier meeting. Commission staff and the applicant, Abdullah Abul Hassan, described the revised design as a metal sign face replacing an earlier banner proposal and confirmed that the commission would not consider garage-door modifications as part of the current approval. Presiding Officer said, “I think it looks good, and it's like the others.”

Staff and commissioners discussed placement and dimensions; the applicant stated the primary sign would be placed above the middle garage/porch and recorded the proposed size in the hearing as approximately 8 by 4 feet. Commissioners agreed the approval should specifically remove the previously proposed secondary/side sign and exclude garage-door work from the certificate.

Miss Rainer moved to approve the certificate as presented with those conditions; Miss Smith seconded. The commission approved the motion by voice vote and subsequently authorized the presiding officer to sign the final order on behalf of the commission.

The commission opened and closed the quasi-judicial hearing for the address during the meeting and accepted testimony and evidence into the record. The commission took no further action on garage doors or a secondary sign; the final, signed order will reflect the conditions approved in the hearing.
